The Blind Dog on Instagram: "Christmas on the road looked a bit different from the traditional gathering that we host every year. Our inaugural trip went through the worst winter storm in decades with temps reaching record lows that haven't been seen in some places in over 150 years. We lost our water Thursday and have no idea if we're going to be getting it back this trip. It's a block of ice and the pipes are frozen solid at the RV park we are staying at in KS. -11 degrees outdoor temp with -39 degree windchill will do that. I've never been so cold 🥶 in my life. We spent 12hrs on Friday with no heat, temps in the RV were between 38-40 degrees. I'll be honest with y'all, I was ready to quit right then and there. I'm keeping this channel honest. The good, bad and the ugly. It was ugly. Now we know that if there's a major winter storm event, we stay put. PERIOD! Live & Learn. Despite no water we've made the best of the holiday. Our traditions of homemade hot cocoa, homemade decorated sugar cookies, wearing our new Christmas pj's, and watching movies all together on Christmas Eve didn't happen. I haven't spent the last 3 days on my feet baking and cooking in preparation for a feast. There was no feast. No turkey 🍗 No roast beast! No fixings. Christmas morning found just the two of us in the RV surrounded by quiet which was so very strange. No excited squeals of delight from kids and adults alike. No piles of crumpled wrapping paper & tissue paper. Yes, it was different. Life is all about stages and changes and we're at a new stage in ours. No matter how you celebrate the holidays, Mark and I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Hanukkah Sameach, and Happy Yuletide 🎄 Stay safe and stay warm🔥 #rvlife #traveling #winterstorm #winterstorm2022 #christmas #yuletide #winnebago #rvlifestyle #freezingcold #grandkids #kansas #lifechanges #keepingitreal #keepingit100 #merrychristmas #happyholidays #christmas2022"7 Likes, 1 Comments - The Blind Dog (@theblinddogrva) on Instagram: "Christmas on the road looked a bit different from the traditional gathering that we host every ye..."
The Blind Dog on Instagram: "I GOT TO PET MANATEES 🧜‍♀️ 🌊 I LOVE ANIMALS! The older I've gotten & the more hateful the world has gotten has me longing for a life spent surrounded by animals, nature & doing everything I can to preserve & care for both. Until I conquer my fear of drowning & learn how to snorkel, this is as close as I can get to checking off "Swimming with Manatees" from my Bucket List. This is a good time to mention my blindness due to my rare genetic eye disease-Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). As a visually impaired legally blind person with only 5-8 degrees of vision left, I rely heavily on my other senses to navigate the world around me. Submerging my face & ears under water removes my most important senses I rely on & is disorienting. It throws me into a panic state due to some near drowning close calls many years ago. This is a VERY bad state to be in while under water. Also, for some reason as my vision has deteriorated my eyes have become increasingly more sensitive to things like water, salt, chlorine (pool), wind, etc. Any tips from my fellow blind community members is greatly appreciated as I work on conquering my fear, overcoming the challenges that come with my disabilities, & deal with the super sensitive eyes. In the meantime, we traveled to the only place in the United States where it's legal to swim with manatees, interact with them & touch them- Crystal River, Florida. We kayaked out to Kings Bay & thought the almost 6hr trip was a bust until on our way back we came back out into the Bay & there they all were. We were surrounded by several manatees! They love their backs scratched because the moss that collects on their backs can get very itchy. Observing these gentle magnificent creatures in their natural habitat (not a zoo) was such a humbling experience. That these giant sea mammals would be so incredibly calm, playful, eager for human interaction despite the fact it's us humans, our reckless boating behaviors, hunting these gentle creatures (in the past), & our pollution driven climate change that have endangered them & put them in jeopardy of going extinct . . . Yes, I cried. For more info of how you can help go to www.savethemanatee.org"63 likes, 1 comments - The Blind Dog (@theblinddogrva) on Instagram: "I GOT TO PET MANATEES 🧜‍♀️ 🌊 I LOVE ANIMALS! Hanging with my Girls this summer !

The Blind Dog on Instagram: "Nom nom on Tacos de bistec and warm salsa with homeade chips South of the Border. First time we've experienced being served warm salsa, which we've found is the norm in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas and just south of the border into Mexico. It's totally different than what we're used to in other parts of Mexico and the US. Crossing the border at the Free Trade International Bridge into Nuevo Progresso was an easy process. Pay $4 to park your car in the lot at the border. Then, it's $1 per person to cross the bridge and walk into Mexico. It's exactly 30 cents to get back across into the US. Seamless process with border patrol. Katie didn't have a passport, but her enhanced federal ID was an acceptable form to prove US citizenship. We walked by the families waiting on the bridge for their asylum applications to be approved. We hoped they'd get their approval soon so their families could be safe from whatever violent country they were fleeing. The crossing is a popular place for medical tourism. People come from the US into Mexico to get affordable medical, dental care, eye care and prescription drugs. #beerinmexico #tacos #tacosdebistek #modelo #bordercrossing #retirement #thisisretirement #livingthedream #fiveoclocksomewhere #chipsandsalsa #traveltheworld #collectexperiencesnotthings #mexico #nuevoprogresso #enjoylife #dininginmexico #enjoythejourney #nomnom"6 likes, 0 comments - theblinddogrva on March 8, 2024: "Nom nom on Tacos de bistec and warm salsa with homeade chips South of the Border. Fairplay, CO. The town I grew up in. elev 10,000 ft.

My old house in Fairplay . It was the old Mercantile in town. We converted it to the Lazy Cue Pool Hall and lived in the apartment in the back. 15 years ago when we drove through it had been converted into a Italian restaurant. Not bad food. Interesting walking through my old house and seeing a bar and kitchen where my old bedroom was. During our 10/24 visit the restaurant has been permanently closed.

My old house in DeSoto, KS. It was 128 years old when we lived there in the '70's. Looks like it has been restored with new siding and roof. Almost 200 year old!!
